UA makes mirrors for world's largest telescope

Phys.org January 2012 | The second of seven 27-foot diameter mirrors for the Giant Magellan Telescope was cast on Jan. 14 inside a rotating furnace at the UA's Steward Observatory Mirror Lab.  While Wildcat fans were cheering on the University of Arizona's men's basketball team on Jan. 14, a new chapter in our understanding of the universe was opening just across the street.  more>
